With global temperature rises set to hit 1.5 degrees warmer than pre-industrial levels by this decade, we all need to pitch in to build a greener world

Ideas worth fighting for

Our city is a coastal city which means we have no choice but to plan for a future of higher sea level’s caused by climate change. I believe climate change action and policy is crucial for Saint John. We have multiple actions that SJ Council has undertaken to date (click here for links) . The short term planning we have done is crucial but we must continue to seek every opportunity to reduce our emissions, invest in renewable energy production, and green our built environment.

SJ ENERGY’S Burchill Wind Project

The proposed Burchill Wind Project is located on Crown land approximately 15 km southwest of the City of Saint John, near Lorneville and the existing Coleson Cove Generating Station. This project will make use of the existing Burchill Road for access and will consist of 10 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of approximately 42 MW. This project will connect to the Saint John Energy electrical grid. Find out more

Alignment with Global Efforts

The world has made it’s commitments to climate change action in the Paris Climate Accord and our nation is no different. Canada has committed to a 30% reduction below 2005 levels by 2030. If Saint John wants to be at the front of the line for federal investment we need to continue to show that we are aligned with those goals. That’s why I proposed we joined the Cities Race to Zero at the September 20, 2021 meeting.
